The Science of Jyotish

Jyotish, meaning “science of light”, is one of the six Vedangas — the limbs of the Vedas. It studies the positions of the nine grahas (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu) across twelve houses and twenty-seven nakshatras at the moment of your birth. This map, the Janma Kundli, reveals tendencies, opportunities and challenges throughout life.

Through the Vimshottari Dasha system, an astrologer can see which planetary period you are passing through and how transits of Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu will affect you. This is what allows timing of important events such as marriage, career change or property purchase.
